Hello, It’s Me!

One of my creations.

Yayyy!! You made it to the Creative Inspiration

Imagination Station!

Hello, I’m Evon (eee-vaughn), sometimes mistakenly called Evan. So if you went there, don’t feel bad, my teachers did too! Ha ha!

I’m the creator and master-mind behind “Lessons from…On the Wings of My Pen.” A natural teacher and nurturer of all things Journaling/scrapbooking/short story writing. I love to play with words, am a hopeless creative needle artist of 44 years turned major journaler in the last 16 years, lover of the needle-arts, paper, and pen. They are an Awesome Trio by the way as you’ll soon realize, if you come along and hang out with me for long. 🙂 I hope you’ll capture the firefly in my heart…and make it your own.

A transplant to the beautiful Pacific Northwest (WA) in 2001, originating as a mid-western gal born in Chicago, IL and trickling down the mid-western states of WI, IL, OK, MO, and TN. Have lived in a few other states as well, but these are the main ones.

While my two children were growing up, I followed my 1st husband across the country with his military/medical career. During this time, I created, directed, and managed a home mission project, “Stitchin’ Sisters/Friends”, creating hand-made bed-sized blankets for sponsored orphan children through REACH International (Berrien Springs, MI). 300+ blankets and 7 years working with some wonderful women across the country sending these amazing beauties to Romania, Honduras, and Rwanda Africa. It was my privilege to work with 61 women from places such as Spokane WA, Greeneville TN, Johnson City TN, and here in Walla Walla, WA. I also taught crochet to my daughter’s 3rd/4th grade classroom and in just 4 months we had enough 8″ squares to make 2 bed-sized blankets for children in Rwanda, Africa. Another mother pitched in in another classroom and we had an additional 2 blankets to send along as well. And if that wasn’t enough, some of the children from our schoolroom adventure wanted to continue, so I opened my home for “Kid’s crochet club” on Wednesdays after school. In one year we had enough for an additional 8 blankets!! YAYYY!!

Fast forward to 2015…

  6. Hello my new friend,
You have done a wonderful job with On The Wing Of My Pen. I also see that you have over 1,000 members who have joined your Facebook Page Barefoot Jouranling Chronicals that is awesome.

I tried my hand at journaling many years ago but never stuck with it. Just by a quick glance at the site and Facebook group (which I just joined) this could possibly be something that I will find the time to do again. I will need all the help I can get which by the looks of it, I am not going to have a problem with that!

I loved reading about the children leaning to crochet and helping with the making of blankets for other people in need. That is awesome and I am sure it brought great joy for all!

It is a pleasure to meet you and I am looking forward to visiting the site often and also the Facebook group.

I pray for many blessing to come for you my friend. Talk to you soon!

    1. Hello back atcha Suzette!!

Thank you for the visit Suzette!! I used to journal sporadically (and then I’d write a book, no kidding!! Ha ha), until I found the Bullet Journal system in Dec 2015, now I’m not sure how I ever got along without it! Would never go back to the way I used to journal now. My bullet journal (BUJO) goes everywhere with me, and I’d not have it any other way. I’m about to start my 5th one in July. 🙂 It’s my Happy Place! I hope you catch the fever!! Lol

Please do come back and feel free to participate with the group. We’re a sweet bunch! I think you’ll enjoy it. We do nearly everything from journaling to quarterly short story contests and everything in between!

If you ever need help with anything, Suzette, just let me know…in the group, here, or on WA. It’s been great meeting you and I hope to connect again soon!

Thank you for your kind comments! I look forward to serving you.

      Have a great weekend Suzette!

  8. Hello Evon, I just found and followed you on WA! I came to your web page and I LOVE it ! You are an inspiration to me today and I look forward to learning from your lessons. You have a sell-able commodity here! You could do some great things with some affiliate promotion from this web site. I have listed my web site but it is a work in progress. I have only started and it is taking more time than I thought it would.

    1. Thank you so much for all your kind words Mary! I soo needed that today!Thank you for the encouragement. We do have quite a varied subject here and on BJC. Dearest Evon,
I know I just met you last night in BJC but already for some reason I feel such a connection to you. You are so full of kindness, compassion, and His light truly shines thru you. You were such a blessing to me last night and I truly believe that our meeting was by divine appointment. Thank you so much Lady for being there and serving the way that you do.
Your story is beautiful! I love the way things went with your crochet classes.
I find it interesting that you mentioned a couple more things we have in common. I also grew up in the Midwest, in Iowa. My 1st husband was in the military so we also moved around. I have landed in Ohio now. I did notice you mentioned berrien springs, mi. My dad grew up in the berries center/berries springs area, so that kinda stuck out to me as well.
Reading your story just brought such a sense of closeness, as if being invited into your home Evon, Thank you for sharing so freely of yourself.
    God bless you!
    With Love and prayers,

    1. Awww…I soo appreciate all your kind words Sonya! My heart enjoys helping people so very much! I truly hope you will find value as you visit BJC and here on my blog. Many exciting things planned for the future of our little nook on the web. 😉

Did you find something in my blog you enjoyed, beside my story? Yes…you and I Do have lots in common, it seems. 🙂 I look forward to getting to know you better and serving you with our journaling subject as well as our rabbit trails we take from time to time. Ha ha!

Is there something I can help you with in your journaling journey?

Thank you so much for reaching out and connecting…means so very much to me.

Love and prayers right back atcha!…and Hugs! God’s richest blessings be yours as well.

  10. Hello Evon,

I hope to get back to writing for fun, as well. I have many questions about how to go about writing about myself and other people. What makes a person qualify to join your Facebook group? Is it an appropriate forum to ask those questions I have?

    Thanks, Lynne

    1. Hello Lynne!

Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you.
We do have a lot of fun in my Facebook group, Barefoot Journaling Chronicles!! Anyone is welcome and encouraged to join! We’d love to have you!!

YES..very appropriate to ask any questions you may have!! I’d love that…I consider myself a Kindergarten teacher for adults. I enjoy helping each of my people to be able to implement bullet journaling into their lives…amongst our other tid bits. I think you will LOVE us! Come join! And I will personally welcome you in!

Hope this message finds you well!

      ~Evon (aka LadybugLove) 🙂

  11. Evon,
You have put much effort into your website and I am impressed with the visualness and friendliness of the website. Most people do not realize that over 60% of learning is visual and if you bring it in a visually appealing manner people remember.
I love your hand lettering section and I have always enjoyed fancy lettering since my regular hand writing is not the neatest. When on deployment, I would work on writing with both hands.
    Great site and ideas.

    1. Awww…thank you for your kind comments, Jay. I spend lots of time attending to my people, answering any questions they may have, and sometimes engaging in chit chat or going deeper in a pm. I love people, so that makes it easy. I am very visual as well and am looking forward to adding teaching through a you tube channel in future. I’m glad you are enjoying our hand lettering. I try to do a hand lettering lesson each Wednesday so we can get in lots of practice. I can hardly wait to see yours progress!

I hope you’ll come back and relax awhile! You’re always welcome, Jay. Thanks for stopping by.

      ~Evon (aka LadybugLove) 🙂
